Manuscripts submitted to Cockroach Studies are accepted on the basis that they have not been submitted for publication in any other journal; authors affirm that text and illustrations are not protected by copyrights of third parties. If manuscripts comply with the instructions below they will be sent to at least one referee. The editor of the journal will inform authors of the referee's comments.
Type specimens, if not already stored in an appropriate permanent museum or institutional collection, MUST be deposited in such a collection. The name of the institution and, if possible, the collection registration number, should be stated.
Manuscripts must be sent to the Editor-in-Chief as a word processor file, either on a CD/DVD or by e-mail. All illustrations should be sent as high quality digital files directly suitable for the layout and printing process.
Please indicate on the front page the corresponding author, and provide the e-mail address and full postal address to which correspondence should be sent.
Authors are requested to provide up to ten keywords following the abstract, which must be supplementary to the title. Papers should follow the format as printed in recent issues of this journal. Manuscripts should preferably be written in English, but manuscripts in German and Spanish are also accepted and will be translated into English for publication. Only scientific names, names of journals and Latin words should be in italics and volume numbers of cited journals must be in bold. Names of authors or other people mentioned in the text should be written in capital letters.
Authors should use the system illustrated below. References must be listed in alphabetical and date order at the end of the paper. Only full articles that have been published or are in press may be included in the reference list - papers which are in preparation will not be accepted. Each citation in the text must be accompanied by a full reference in the list of references and vice versa. Footnotes should be avoided.
In the text, references should be given as follows:
AUTHOR (1996) or (AUTHOR, 1996) or (AUTHOR, 1959; AUTHOR, 1987; AUTHOR, 2007) or AUTHOR et al. (1996) if more than three authors.
The reference list citations should be formatted as follows:
AUTHOR, A. & AUTHOR, B. 1989. Title of the book. Publisher, Place of publication. v + 900pp.
EDITOR, A. & EDITOR, B. (Eds). 1989. Title of the book. Publisher, Place of publication. 400pp.
Each illustration must be provided as a separate electronic file and identified by its number and the name of the author(s). Quality and resolution must be suitable for publication (consult the editor if in doubt). Tables should be written as text (longer tables in a separate file).
If submitted manuscripts are not in agreement with the editorial instructions they will be returned to the author for alteration.
A set of proofs in electronic form will be sent to the corresponding author. Corrections should be returned to the Editor-in-Chief within two weeks; in the case of an author's failure to do so the manuscript will be corrected by the editor. Major alterations to the text and illustrations are only accepted when absolutely necessary.
A pdf file of the paper as published in Cockroach Studies will be sent to the corresponding author.
