Aeluropoda insignis up for grabs

19 hours 57 min ago
Hi. Our letting agent recently discovered our little colony of roaches and has told us to get rid of them. Not sure the exact number but there are something like 30-40 of them. If anyone in London would like them, please send me a message.

Here are a few new pics from an unidentified roach endemic to South Africa, which I have had in my collection for some months. Perhaps these will make ID clearer...

Housing for German cockroach ( Blattella germanica )

Thu, 26/06/2008 - 9:51pm
This is my first post on this forum, soo on this occasion, hey everyone. :)

I have been looking online for this answer a lot but didnt find any. What housing should i do for my german cockroaches.

Also any tips to keep them in terrarium. I will put cover over the terrarium but also i will put grease on wall of terrarium soo i can open the box freely and roaches wont escape. This is kind of a problem though since grease gets on their body and kills them. Soo i am looking for the alternative. :)

Panesthia angustipennis spadica

Fri, 20/06/2008 - 1:57am
Hello ALl, I am trying to find out if these particular species, need the adults to grow to adulthood?
Panesthia angustipennis spadica
Panesthia angustipennis yayeyamensis

I want to know if the can make it on their own just with rotten wood or they still need the adults to replenish the bacteria that process the wood in their guts.

I heard that some US wood roaches need the adults to replenish the bacteria specially after they molt as they molt their stomach linner containg the bacteria that breaks down the wood.

I hope I made myself clear.

Gyna slow ?

Wed, 11/06/2008 - 6:26pm
Hi

I have heard that Gyna lurida is very slow to reproduce. This is why i was a little surprised when i found small nymphs in the substrate when i was cleaning. The first imago apeared about three weeks ago, and two more about two weeks ago. This is the only three adults i have for now. The box they inhabit is only modified with very little ventilation, so its very humid inthere, and the temperature is around 35 degrees celcius (95 Fahrenheit) Culd this be the reason for this lightningfast reproduktiverate ?

Dubia's for ONE Dragon

Wed, 11/06/2008 - 4:57pm
Hi all I'm new to breeding roaches. I have approx 300 dubia mixed sizes. I know I need to let my coloney get established but about how long for one adult beardie? I have found new babies so I know some of the adults are already breeding and I'd say that I have close to 50 to 60 adults. I have been feeding off the males here and there because I have more males. I'm really hoping that i can start feeding from the coloney soon because he loves them. So for those of you that have adult beardies how many are you feeding off a week? How big was your coloney before you started feeding from it?

Thank you,
Julie

species numbers per family?

Mon, 26/05/2008 - 3:09pm
Hi all,
I'm a new member with a keen interest in cockroach diversity, and I am hoping someone can help me out.

The Blattodea Species File is a truly amazing resource, and I applaud all those involved in its development. Is it possible to extract species numbers by family? I see that there are roughly 4,600 valid species names right now, but how many of those are Blaberidae? Blattellidae?

I ask because my research focuses on ensign wasp systematics (Evaniidae), and we'd like to make some educated guesses as to how many species there are world-wide (449 valid ones right now). Assuming they are species-specific with respect to the cockroach oothecae they utilize, which might not be a reasonable assumption, we should be able to get a good estimate of ensign wasp species by looking at how many non-Blaberidae and non-Blattelidae-that-internalize-their-egg-cases there are. Ensign wasps have never been reared from Blaberidae, so I am assuming they haven't yet evolved to exploit internalized oothecae (or what remains of the oothecae).

Thanks for your help, and please let me know if you ever rear any evaniids!
